Woodall Calls on President to Offer a Budget that Balances

February 6, 2013
Press Release

(Washington, D.C.) – On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 444, “The Require a PLAN Act.”  H.R. 444 mandates that if President Obama does not submit a budget proposal that balances within the ten-year budget window, he must provide a supplemental budget plan demonstrating what fiscal year his plan would achieve balance.

U.S. Representative Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) issued the following statement in support of H.R. 444:

“Hardworking Americans must work to balance their own budgets every day.  With tax season in full swing, everyone is taking an even closer look at their finances in order to try and figure out how to make ends meet for the upcoming year.  When it comes to taking finances seriously, Washington should be no different—yet, for the past four years at least, President Obama and the Democrat-led Senate have done anything but.  For almost four years, the Senate has failed to pass a budget resolution, and for four years, the President has failed to offer a budget that balances.”

“While we’ve made some progress by finally getting Senate Democrats to agree to do a budget, we need President Obama to take a leadership role reining in America’s spiraling debt.  The ‘Require a PLAN Act’ gives the President the opportunity to start fresh and offer a budget that actually balances without the ineffective tax, borrow, and spend policies of the past.  It’s time we hold Washington accountable to the same standards as we hold American families and the ‘Require a PLAN Act’ is a step in that direction.”
