Woodall on the IRS Targeting Conservative Groups: Another Breach of Trust with the American People

May 14, 2013
Press Release

Last Friday, the IRS made a stunning admission to unfairly targeting conservative groups who applied for tax-exempt status over the last several years.  U.S. Representative Rob Woodall, member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government reform and sponsor of legislation that would completely do away with the IRS, issued the following statement:

“It is no wonder that more Americans are losing faith in their federal government as incidents like this one continue to arise.  Rather than confront this huge breach of trust head-on, the White House insists on spinning the incident, calling it the ‘conduct of a small number of IRS employees.’  We now know that the ‘small number’ work at one of the IRS’ main locations for processing non-profit applications and that the work screening those applications had been centralized with those ‘few employees.’  We don’t need more spin; we need serious answers about fixing this Administration’s mistakes.  Daily, the fibers of trust between government and the American people continue to be torn.  Weary of apologies, citizens deserve better.”

“The President promised that his would be the ‘most transparent Administration in history,’ so let’s end the spin and the cover-ups and lay the facts bare for all citizens to consider.”
