WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a bipartisan bill (H.R. 2547) introduced by U.S. Representatives Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) and Julia Brownley (D-CA-26) by a vote of 409-0 that would build upon current law that the two originally authored. The Veterans Expanded Trucking Opportunities (VETOPPS) Act, signed into law as part of the FAST Act in December of 2015, removed regulatory barriers for military veterans continuing or beginning work in the trucking industry.

Rob Woodall (GA 07) that has already been unanimously approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Washington, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved S. 1094, the “Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act,” which will now go to the President’s desk for signature. The legislation provides the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with the authority to expeditiously remove, demote, or suspend any VA employee, including Senior Executive Service (SES) employees, based on performance or misconduct.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4974, the “Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act,” marking the first of the FY2017 appropriations season. The legislation prioritizes combatant command needs while increasing discretionary spending for veterans by 3% from FY2016. Rep. Rob Woodall issued the following statement in support of its passage.

CUMMING, Ga. —Congressman Rob Woodall, whose district includes much of south Forsyth County, spoke to members of the Cumming Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America at their May monthly meeting.

The Republican 7th District Representative delivered a PowerPoint presentation outlining federal spending on VA hospitals and other programs and services for military veterans.

In addition, Woodall presented each of the members present with a presidential citation commemorating their service on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

(Washington, DC) – Today, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee passed H.R. 3763, the “Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015,” clearing the last major hurdle prior to moving the bill to the House Floor.  Included in the bill is language from Rep. Woodall’s H.R. 3739, the “VETOPPS Act.”  Previously introduced as a standalone bill, the bipartisan measure is now set to advance as part of the long-anticipated surface transportation legislation.

On Friday, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall (GA 07) introduced H.R. 3739, the “Veterans’ Expanded Trucking (VET) Opportunities,” or “VETOPPS Act” to eliminate an unnecessary regulatory barrier that has hindered U.S. military veterans in their efforts to resume work – specifically, in the trucking industry. Joining Woodall as the lead co-sponsor of the bipartisan measure was Rep. Tim Walz (MN 01) and 10 original co-sponsors including fellow Georgia Representatives Lynn Westmoreland (GA 03) and David Scott (GA 13). Following introduction, the bill has been referred to the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, where 9 of its original co-sponsors currently serve.
